IFSA Judge Course

So last weekend I went to the IFSA Judge Course in Groningen (NL).
Thursday evening I left at about 20:00 and arrived at 23:00 at my host for the weekend’s house. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ron again for the heartful welcome and free stay.
It was going to be hard work to get us all trained for the final exam on sunday afternoon.
In total, we were with 8 people; Ron, Martin, Marlies, Carmen and Ragnild from Groningen, Matthias Saou from Spain, our instructor Francesco from Italy and myself.

Friday at 9:00 the course started, which was given by experienced IFSA Judge Francesco Maselli. At noon we went to the city center to get some bread and stuff and had our lunch in the streets. Cones were placed, we enjoyed ourselves and the crowd was pleased as well :) We also joined the Friday Fun Skate, and eventually ended up in pub “De Bres” for a couple of beers.

Saturday we continued the course, went to the same spot again at noon, and in the evening we ordered some pizza and had a great Freestyle slalom session in which I learned a lot. By the way, thanks again Francesco for your hints on how to do the Fan Volte & Chicken Leg.

Then on sunday we had some more studying to do and in the afternoon a 3 hour exam, of which we’ll know the results in a few weeks. When the exam (and the stress) was over, everybody went home to eat. Ron took his guests (Matthias and me) out to “Broncos”, a steak house where they serve some pretty damn good spare ribs and where the waitresses are cute. From there, we went straight to the market place of Groningen, where we were supposed to meet up with the rest of the group for hitting the city nightlife.
Today the dutch celebrate their queen (Queens day). I knew about that, but what I didn’t know is that they already start with the celebration the night before, and it’s called Queens Night. So the streets were absolutely packed with joyous people, there was music everywhere, beer stands everywhere, … they just made one giant party out of the city center. Needless to say, we had a great time as well.

And that about concludes my weekend.
I’m tired as hell now, but I’m so glad I did this course. It also completely changed my opinion of the IFSA, and I will do my best to get rid of the incorrect view people have from the IFSA.

The pictures can be found as usual on my web albums, just click here.
I’ll also post a bunch of movies after I encoded them.
Update : The videos have been uploaded to the webalbum as well.

Slalom weekend

Saturday I went to the Blaarmeersen Park in Ghent for an entire day of slalom:
Pictures are as usual on my picasa web album here.

Sunday was Heritage day and I went to Bruges to see the old Roller Disco in action.
There was a nice slalom session and a little bit of sight-seeing afterwards.
Pictures are also on picasa : here

Edit: if you were wondering how I got those bruises on my knuckles, elbow and knee…here’s the reason :)

Gabriel Rios makes beautiful music

Went to his try-out concert yesterday in the Velinx in Tongeren, and I have to say they (not just Gabriel Rios, but also his entire band) were really good.
I didn’t hear a single song that I didn’t like. He easily got the crowd dancing and had great interaction with them as well.
An evening well spent.

And now, I’m off to the Blaarmeersen for an entire day of freestyle slalom. WOOHOOOW!!!!

Café d’Anvers news

OMFG…
Café d’Anvers just announced they’re having Silicone Soul as their resident DJ’s.
What it actually comes down to is Silicone Soul do their thing every 3 months.
Eventhough it’s not every week, I’m still very much pleased with this news.

Now all I need is people to join me…

Stranger Than Fiction

I just finished seeing Stranger Than Fiction, a movie that left me with the same feeling I had when the end credits of Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind were rolling.
I would _highly_ recommend watching this movie, because it’s delightful to see Will Ferrell and Maggie Gyllenhaal play. And well, the story is superb and original.
There’s really nothing more left to say about it, then just “Go see it ! … Now!”.

SerialChillers mix

The SerialChillers have a new mix online.
You should check it out if you haven’t already.
It’s got all of the already older groove songs in an up-tempo beat.
Mixing is done pretty clean, just what I expect of these guys.
Visit their mixes page for a link to download.
Tracklisting is up in their news area.

Looking forward to their next mix already :)

The Easter Bunny

At work there’s a new bunny, a white one with beady red eyes (an albino).
The usual bunnies around here are wild brown ones, but they don’t seem to like the new white one.
They don’t seem to like it at all…
There have been numerous occasions where she was chased by the brown ones and you could see flocks of fur fling into the air. (say that after a few beers)

I think it’s sad though, especially because this particular bunny makes me laugh a lot. Whenever I see her running, and she stops, she wobbles her head for a while.
My guess is this blurry bunny has either escaped her human hosts, or this bunny is actually the easter bunny itself and is a sort of preminition that introludes the festivities of Easter.
Considering the confused movements she’s showing, I wouldn’t be surprised if she started laying colored eggs.

There’s one thing you need to know about me though.
I work for a company in the chemicals industry. So a more logical explanation would be that some household albino bunny wandered off into the fields and got mixomatosis or something.
Usually these poor bastards get eaten by stray cats that also roam the fields, who in turn get run over by vehicles on the highway. Possibly because these cats get “high” when munching on forementioned bunnies.

It’s just a theory…
