Blade, Guns and Pics

My neighbour plays in a hardcore (rock) band called “Blade”.
Yesterday they released their first album and organized a true release party in café “De Nacht” in Hasselt.
Bands that played are: The Setup, Human Demise, Goldust (DE), Fungus Inc, Verify, No Recess, Triumph and Tragedy, For My Enemies, and of course Blade.
There was a war coming, and it had it’s victims… Reported incidents were someone with a broken nose, and a friend got a gaping wound above his eyebrow. Just watch the pics for the bloody mess he made:

The pictures of SerialChillers‘ shoutcast are online as well:

Then there’s this last thing you should watch, which has to do with the “DuckHunt” game on Wii Play. The 2nd stage is insane.

SerialChillers Shoutcast

Attention !

This thursday I’m helping the SerialChillers set up a SHOUTCast server at their very own mixing grounds.
The cast will be tested on the spot, which means you can expect a live mix broadcast from 21:00-23:00 (GMT+0100).
So mark your calendars and set your alarms, because this thursday the (Serial)Chill is on.
You will be able to find the link on their MySpace and I’ll probably be able to post it on this site as well, so check either of them.

Well that was that… I ran against a few problems, but in the end it worked on time. Too bad we only had a peak of 8 listeners, but at least we had one trusty listener who heard the entire set. Until next time!

Coming up

Next friday I’m going to a concert of The Arcade Fire in “Vorst Nationaal” (near Brussels). I’m really looking forward to seeing them perform live. To prepare myself I’ve been watching some YouTube video’s, but I guess these aren’t representative, because you miss the entire atmosphere that’s going on when they’re playing. Don’t prove me wrong Arcade Fire! :)

In the weekend of 10 & 11 november, I’ll be joining a group of dutch people & belgians heading towards the Eastern Midlands. Nottingham to be more precise. To compete in BattleUK II: Attack of the Cones. As you would’ve guessed, it’s a Freestyle Slalom competition and I couldn’t miss out on that, now could I? A bunch of people I haven’t met in real life are coming over as well, so that should be exciting too. There will be pictures and a report when I get back ofcourse.

As for ConeCrazy, we’re working on a new logo and site layout/color scheme, as well getting a weekly 2 hours in the sports accomodation center “Demerstrand” in Diepenbeek, Belgium. If things go as planned, we should be teaching/practicing slalom the week after BattleUK II.

Ballooning

My mom went ballooning yesterday, with colleagues from her office, offered by Smeg. You can check out the pictures below.

And totally unrelated, but worth mentioning:

I don’t usually like NAS, but this remix is fantastic. It has such a lazy sunday afternoon chill feel to it.

Skate news

Some points of attention:
1. ConeCrazy
You might have noticed already in the “links” menu, but it deserves more credit, so without further ado…ConeCrazy is born, check it out.

2. QuadSk8 RollerDisco
And last friday me and some friends went to an old-skool RollerDisco event in Rotterdam. We had a great time, but it was also very tiring (we were on skates from 19h30 to 01h00 the entire time).
You can look at some pictures of the event below.

3. Achieved: 10 cones on 1 wheel
Finally! (Please don’t laugh at my excitement :) )

Listening to: Ida Corr feat. Fedd-E Le Grand - Let Me Think About It.

It’s a riot riooooooooooooooooooot!

Ok, starting right fucking now, I’m going to blog more about music.
More specifically, the music I’m listening to right now, and that seems to be stuck in my head and unwilling to get out.
It sounds like a bad thing, but actually it’s good. Awesome, even!

Scenario Rock - Skitzo Dancer (Justice remix)

I first heard this tune, when I was browsing the YouTubes, in a commercial for Sony’s Rolly (wtf is that thing anyway…?).
Here’s a link to the band’s myspace (where you can listen to the Justice remix as well).

…show you what all that howl is for

‘Wolf like me’ by the band ‘TV on the radio’ is another superb song I randomly encountered while browsing the intarwebs.
I really like the lyrics in this one. Coming from me that means a whole lot by the way, I’ll explain.

You see, when I hear a song, first thing that comes to my attention and what makes me like it or not, is the melody.
When I really like what they’re singing, I look up the lyrics. And this time the lyrics made it even better.
They add to the atmosphere the entire song is radiating with.

In this particular song, the writings are also excellently put together with carefully chosen words. I have this sort of feeling that this song is “complete” because of all its elements…and I find it hard to explain, but I’ll try.

The song is about how it feels to be a werewolf and how at first it seems unpleasant and a bad thing, but there’s this urge that just forces you to give in to the “curse”. The “disease” quickly finds its way into your system and you start to enjoy it more and more with every minute that passes.

As I said I love the choice of words, particularly because of how they seem to sound “old”, kind of “vintage” if you will. I think this really matches the setting for the werewolf subject.

Enough of my jabbering, watch the video and listen to the song:

And read the lyrics (before, during, or afterwards):
TV on the radio - Wolf like me

Say say my playmate
wont you lay hands on me
mirror my malady
transfer my tragedy

Got a curse i cannot lift
shines when the sunset shifts
when the moon is round and full
gotta bust that box gotta gut that fish

My mind’s aflame

We could jet in a stolen car
but i bet we wouldnt get too far
before the transformation takes
and bloodlust tanks and
crave gets slaked

My mind has changed
my bodys frame but god i like it
my hearts aflame
my bodys strained but god i like it

My mind has changed
my bodys frame but god i like it
my hearts aflame
my bodys strained but god i like it

Charge me your day rate
ill turn you out in kind
when the moon is round and full
gonna teach you tricks that’ll blow your
mongrel mind
baby doll i recognize
you’re a hideous thing inside
if ever there were a lucky kind it’s
you you you you

I know its strange another way to get to know you
you’ll never know unless we go so let me show you
i know its strange another way to get to know you
we’ve got till noon here comes the moon
so let it show you
show you now

Dream me oh dreamer
down to the floor
open my hands and let them
weave onto yours

Feel me, completer
down to my core
open my heart and let it
bleed onto yours

Feeding on fever
down all fours
show you what all that
howl is for

Hey hey my playmate
let me lay waste to thee
burned down their hanging trees
it’s hot … hot…hot…hot here

Got a curse we cannot lift
shines when the sunset shifts
there’s a cure comes with a kiss
the bite that binds the gift that gives

now that we got gone for good
writhing under your riding hood
tell your gra’ma and your mama too
it’s true
we’re howling forever

StuBru goes Drupal

This morning, the new Studio Brussel website went live.
After registering (they now also have a community module among other things), I noticed they were using Drupal.
It’s hardly noticeable with all the customizations the webmasters added and it’s nicely done.

Our kendo club also uses Drupal, but we don’t have the pretty styling and are still using an older version of the open source CMS.

Congratulations with your new site guys!

Gabriel Rios makes beautiful music

Went to his try-out concert yesterday in the Velinx in Tongeren, and I have to say they (not just Gabriel Rios, but also his entire band) were really good.
I didn’t hear a single song that I didn’t like. He easily got the crowd dancing and had great interaction with them as well.
An evening well spent.

And now, I’m off to the Blaarmeersen for an entire day of freestyle slalom. WOOHOOOW!!!!

Café d’Anvers news

OMFG…
Café d’Anvers just announced they’re having Silicone Soul as their resident DJ’s.
What it actually comes down to is Silicone Soul do their thing every 3 months.
Eventhough it’s not every week, I’m still very much pleased with this news.

Now all I need is people to join me…
